Pam Kennedy and Jackie Girvan were among the scores of people manning one of the 60 sites at last week’s Positive Ageing Expo, organised by Age Concern Ashburton.

The ladies were on the Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) stall promoting CAB services and looking for volunteers to help out of the office in Community House Mid Canterbury.

CAB offers free, confidential advice to anyone who needs it.

Anybody not able to find information, or those who need help or support are encouraged to use the service.

CAB volunteers don’t have to know everything, but they have to know how to find it, Pam said.

They do one three hour duty a week and full training on the extensive CAB information system is provided.

The service runs Monday to Friday from 10am – 1pm and anybody keen to help can make contact by phoning 03 9288761.

The expo, which saw more than 300 people through the doors of the Hotel Ashburton in the first two hours, had once again proved popular to attendees.

It was the fourth time the event had been held in Ashburton.

Age Concern Ashburton president Jan McClelland said there was a great selection of organisations present and they were all engaged.

The expo is held every two years is the only event of its type for the elderly in Canterbury.

Site holders saw a variety of organisations from Ashburton and further afield attend including Eldernet, Hearing Excellence, NZ Red Cross, funeral services, Menzshed, gardening clubs and health and fitness.
