The inaugural Blaze display at the Plains Railway was a flaming success. Hundreds turned up to look at vintage fire engines and ambulances on show, some of which had travelled long distances for the event.

Displays included the 16 person manual pump with members of the public given the opportunity to get all hands to the pump, Fire and Emergency provided a display of a pot left unattended on the stove catching fire. Ashburton Volunteer Fire Brigade put on a demonstration on extracting a person from a car and members of Grey Watch, who had given hundreds of hours restoring a fire appliance, were acknowledged with the presentation of a book of photos of their restoration project.

The Courier’s Dellwyn Moylan went along to snap some of the action.
