It’s all go for 34 members of the Ashburton Family Go Kart Club heading to the NZ Grass Kart Championships in Timaru this weekend.
Those competing from the Ashburton club range in age from five-years-old old to those in their 50s.
Club president Brad O’Brien said the number entering from Ashburton was a record number.
‘‘We have males and one female competing at the the nationals.’’
The national championships run by the South Canterbury Family Kart Club will run 14 classes.
‘‘The Ashburton club has always been successful at national championships with podium finishes in the classes we enter,’’ O’Brien said.
Competition at the nationals involves six races each consisting of 16 laps.
‘‘The young ones’ carts are 125cc motors while the adult rider carts’ motors are 450cc,’’ O’Brien said
The national championships are always held in the South Island but the location moves around the island.
Ashburton will host the national championships for the first time in 2026.
