Recreation land on Racecourse Rd owned by Ashburton Club and MSA has been sold to housing developer, Mike Greer Homes.

The land was used by the bowling and petanque sections of the club.

The sale was confirmed earlier this month. Settlement date is April 2 next year.

Club general manager Cliff Downes said there was still a lot of planning to be done around timelines and how the end result would look.

‘‘The settlement terms are long and complicated, and I am meeting with the purchasers’ representatives (this) week to discuss strategies, and how it may affect or otherwise our sections that currently utilise the facilities,’’ Downes said.

GIVE AWAY: Full sets of old quoits are available to schools and organisations who may be able to use them.

‘‘However, it gives me and the committee comfort, that the Ashburton Club and MSA, is on sound financial footings.’’

He said land sale proceeds would be used to reduce club debt.

The club was also calling for debenture stock offers until August 31 to raise money from members.

The debenture offering was a way for members to assist the club in future development projects, Downes said.

As a result of the land sale, Downes said there were items at the Racecourse Rd to be removed including several full sets of quoits. He said any schools or organisations which were able to use them, could make contact via email at [email protected]

There were also reusable honours boards and indoor bowling mats/ carpet available to purchase for those interested.
