Painters, crafters and knitters are making social connections and sharing knowledge at a new craft group meeting at the Chertsey Cafe.
The monthly group began with 15 crafters doing a range of works across painting, spinning, knitting, crocheting and needlework.
Started by amateur painters Carol Maginness and Yvonne Dalglish, the gathering was open to anyone to attend of any age and ability.
‘‘I was quite surprised there was that many to start, pleasantly surprised,’’ Maginness said.
‘‘It was really good. Everybody seemed quite positive.’’
Among those attending were seasoned crafters and beginners seeking guidance, she said.
‘‘There were people from Ashburton, Chertsey and Rakaia.’’
Maginness and Yvonne had met during last month’s Methven Summer School and decided to meet regularly to paint.
Chertsey was the midway point between their homes. ‘‘We went to the Methven Summer School and we ended up sitting beside each other,’’ Maginness said.
‘‘We wanted to paint after that so we decided we would go and paint at each other’s house.’’
– The next meeting of the craft group will be February 25 from 6pm to 8pm.
