Step closer to supermarket

Foodstuffs has applied to the district council for resource consent to operate a Four Square supermarket at the former Salmon Tales site in Rakaia.

Foodstuffs South Island Properties Ltd propose to undertake site changes and minor building modifications, in preparation for operation of the supermarket, 7am to 10pm seven days per week.

Changes include installing and upgrading signage, earthworks to infill an onsite feature pond, vehicle accessway from Rolleston St, conversion of bus parking to a loading area, removal of existing landscaping and deck area to create additional car parking, installation of 26 new car parks, new landscaping, installation of pedestrian pathways to integrate and connect the site.

Foodstuffs bought the building late last year.

Tenants Salmon Tales Cafe and Rakaia Country Arts Co Op Gift Shop both closed, while Dairy Vets Rakaia moved in March.

The district council is assessing the application.
