Big Little Theatre Company actors will next month present a romantic comedy by William Shakespeare.

Two Gentlemen of Verona will stage at the Ashburton Event Centre April 15 to 17.

Director Jackie Heffernan said it would be a ‘‘lively and fun-filled’’ adaptation of the Shakespearian classic.

It was bringing together actors from Big Little’s junior, intermediate, and senior companies.

‘‘This dynamic production is particularly special, as it marks a milestone for many of our performers,’’ Heffernan said.

‘‘For some, it is their final bow with The Big Little Theatre Company after years of dedication and growth. For others, it is their very first time stepping on to the stage.

‘‘The result is a vibrant and heartfelt performance, rich with passion and energy.’’

Protagonist Proteus follows his best friend Valentine to fashionable Milan, where he becomes infatuated with the woman Valentine intends to marry, named Silvia.

As Proteus plots to remove his best friend from the equation, he remains oblivious to the fact that his devoted love, Julia, has followed him in disguise.

‘‘Will Proteus’ scheming lead to his triumph, or will true love and loyalty prevail?’’ Heffernan said.

Adding to the excitement, Two Gentlemen of Verona will take place in a surprise new location within the event centre, offering audiences an immersive and unexpected theatrical experience.

‘‘It’s Shakespeare as you’ve never seen before, and as you’ll never enjoy quite as much again.’’
