More than 280 stunning photographs make up a hardcover book documenting the Mid Canterbury Vintage Machinery Club’s Wheat and Wheels Rally.
The coffee table style book is full of agricultural and other machines shining in all their glory at the event, as photographed by Struan Christie, Bailey Chambers, Kyle Christie, John Hall and Dave ‘Skoda’ Ching.
The photographs were taken during the two-day rally at Lauriston, hosted by club member Anthony Hampton.
It attracted about 5000 people who were spoilt for choice with more than 700 types of machinery, ranging from the newest and biggest pivot tractors to vintage tractors of yesteryear, and featuring 100 years of IH Farmall production.
There were also traction engines, military displays, vintage and classic tractors, cars, trucks, fire engines and motorbikes.
A demonstration harvest of 3ha of Discovery wheat took place after the final parade on day two.
It was machinery heaven, that also raised $30,000 for Canterbury West Coast Air Rescue Trust. Struan said so far more than 100 books of the two days of action had been sold.
There were still a limited number left. They cost $65 each.
It was a fundraiser for the club, he said.
It was the second coffee table book Struan had made over the years; he did a photo book of the 2016 rally as well.
Feedback on the publication to date had been favourable, something he and the book’s fellow photographers were proud of.
‘‘It’s a nice hardcover book. It’s nice, good quality, shiny (paper). I paid a bit extra for better quality photograph paper,’’ he said.
Anyone wanting to view or buy a book can make contact via the Mid Canterbury Vintage Machinery Club’s Facebook page or text Struan on 0274307020.
‘‘It might be a good Christmas present for somebody,” he said.
