Last Friday saw the launch of Opuke Beer & Food Truck Fridays, in the front garden of the Mt Hutt Memorial Hall, with a seating area inside the function room.

It was the first instalment of what organisers Ri Ra Events hope will become a regular feature in Methven.

Featuring food and drink offerings by The Shebeen, Johnatello’s Pizza Inferno, Kebizza, Purple Dragon, Azteca Tacos, Chef on Wheels, The Rollin’ Pedalar and Station Coffee, the evening was a success.

People flocked in their hundreds to check out the attraction, grab a drink and bite to eat, while embracing the excitable vibes created with music, lighting and a fire pit.

Ri Ra Events’ Gary Manning and Colm McGrath said they came up with the idea after seeing an influx of food truck options filter into Methven in recent times.

The main objective was to provide a family friendly offering as Methven venues reached capacity over ski season.

Gary said he was pleased with how the inaugural event went, and believed it had plenty of future potential.

“It’s great to use the existing resources we have herein the town. Decent lighting and music add to the ambience of the evening,’’ he said.

“There are some great quality food trucks around town and to put them in one area was a bit of a no brainer, also to add drinks provided by The Shebeen and Station Coffee gives it that added touch.’’

  • Opuke Beer & Food Truck Fridays will return tonight, from 5pm until late.
