Mount Hutt College band Herding Cats are set to play during a free showcase event at the Blue Pub in Methven on Thursday next week. The band will support rock trio Bulletproof Convertible from Dunedin.
Bulletproof Convertible, a three-piece original rock band known for high-energy performances, organise Dead Rockers Ball fundraising events for community groups and organisations.
The Dead Rockers Balls are an on ongoing series of gigs for which people are encouraged to come along dressed as their favourite dead rock star. The trio, which plays original songs with a 1950s influence, are keen to meet and connect with organisations in the district to run a similar show later this year.
They have a new album due to be released in March.
Both Herding Cats and Bulletproof Convertible are due to play at Muscle Car Madness in Rangiora the weekend of January 24-25, so next week’s performance is a showcase to that event.
Promoter Simon Vare said in a statement it would be a good chance people could see the current line-up of the college band, which formed in 2021 under the umbrella of Wayne’s School of Rock. ‘‘The band were named Herding Cats due to some challenging rehearsal periods in the early days,’’ Vare said.
‘‘The boys play in two concerts per year plus a prizegiving, and have competed in four bandquests in Christchurch and finally won the contest last year. The band’s repertoire is mainly old school rock with a couple of surprises. Come along, enjoy the music.’’
Vare said the event could be considered the first Mid/South Canterbury Dead Rockers Ball event.
Herding Cats is supporting Bulletproof Convertible at the Blue Pub, Methven, 7.30pm, January 23.
