State Highway 1 through Rakaia remains subject to the government’s auto-reversal of speed limits.

This means it is still destined to go back up to 70kmh from 50kmh by July 1.

However, New Zealand Transport Agency Waka Kotahi is encouraging people to share any concerns they have about the change via email.

An NZTA spokesperson said the SH1 Rakaia township speed limit reduction was one of 38 locations subject to auto-reversal under the new Setting of Speed Limits Rule, so could not be included in current consultation seeking feedback on other additional locations.

The other additional locations include SH1 north of Rakaia, where it has been proposed to have the limit increase from 80kmh to 100kmh. Consultation on this, via nzta.govt.nz or by emailing [email protected], closes March 13.

‘‘NZTA acknowledges the concerns of the community with regards to the SH1 Rakaia township speed limit changes. We encourage people to continue to share their concerns and other feedback,’’ the spokesperson said.

‘‘The new Setting of Speed Limits Rule does allow NZTA to undertake targeted speed reviews in the future where they align with the intent of the rule and there is strong community support, and we are now considering a review at this location.’’

There was no deadline, but feedback should be submitted as soon as possible.
