Mt Somers Staveley Playcentre will be hosting a Christmas market at Mt Somers this Sunday.

It will be the first of its kind for the village, with more than 25 stalls expected, including food, plants, jewellery, clothing, giftware and crafts.

A pop-up playground will be in place, along with horse and cart rides, and live music.

Mt Somers Staveley Playcentre parents will have their own stall at the market, with a Christmas hamper raffle, face painting for a gold coin donation, and items for sale including handmade Christmas decorations, plants, toys and books.

Playcentre parents came up with the idea for the market when they were brainstorming on fundraising ideas.

Mum Bene ´dicte Rebotton has been praised for her hard work in getting the idea off the ground, making all the necessary inquiries as to what was needed to make it possible.

The group is pleased with having received strong support from the community, having never done something to this scale before.

They are now hoping for a good turnout and nice weather on the day.

They will consider making the market an annual event, depending on how successful it is.

The day will also feature a car boot sale alongside the market, on Ashburton Gorge Rd.

* Mount Somers Christmas Market is December 3, 11am to 3pm on the village green, Pattons Rd. Bring cash for purchases. For future updates, see the event’s Facebook page. There are still spaces available for the boot sale – pitches are $10 and can be secured by emailing [email protected].
