Original paintings from the late-Colin Redmond, and pottery items from members of Ashburton Pottery Society, have gone on sale as a fundraiser for the society.

Pottery pieces include tableware, giftware, sculptures, garden pieces and ornamental items. The sale, in a pop-up shop in Ashburton Arcade, runs to 4pm Saturday.

Society treasurer Peter Allan said the week-long fundraiser was a chance for people to pick up some handcrafted original pottery, priced from just $10.

They could also view, and purchase, from the largest collection of Redmonds paintings which had ever been on display, including a range of smaller unframed original works.

There are also some display items not for sale, there to showcase the work of past society members and tutors.

Allan and fellow members are calling for new members to join their group in the new year. Prospective members attend six evenings of training from an experienced tutor. The cost of $90 includes clay, glazing and firing charges.

The society was founded in 1969. It moved to its present location at Nixon St, Tinwald, in 1970.
