About 250 people, mostly from throughout Canterbury, have undertaken classes at the Methven Summer School.

Co-ordinator Rosa Watson said numbers were slightly up on last year for the annual week of classes, which got under way on Saturday and concludes today.

New courses included calligraphy, building a garden obelisk, and barbecuing meat. There were about 25 courses altogether.

The success of the school was a tribute to the hard work of organising committee members, Watson said.

‘‘They are just so passionate, and they are the reason we have this wonderful event,’’ she said.

‘‘Keep an eye out for 2026!’’

While that sounded a long way away, the schedule of courses for the next summer school would be launched in August.

Methven Summer School began in 1987.
