From sky lanterns to star-shaped scones, Hakatere Marae had it all when members celebrated Matariki with the community last weekend.

A hauora health day was a chance to get a health check, get vaccinated, play games or take a horse ride.

It was followed by the first Matariki noho marae (sleep over) and movie night.

The Ashburton Courier photographer Dellwyn Moylan captured people among the action.

FUN: A variety of games were offered at the marae’s hauora health day.
POPULAR: A favourite among attendees was the horse rides.
REMEMBERING: Sky lanterns were lit for loved ones as Matariki is a time to acknowledge the dead and to release their spirits to become stars.
